Description:
Despite the wide recognition of obesity as a chronic disease, the clinical recommendations that guide the diagnosis of obesity and its management have not been aligned sufficiently with the clinical processes normally adopted for other chronic diseases. To stimulate the development and implementation of clinical guidelines for obesity more aligned with those already in place for other chronic diseases, the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) proposed a new framework for the diagnosis, staging and management of obesity in adults.
Learning Objectives:
1. After participating in the webinar, learners will be able to discuss the appropriate individual therapeutic targets with patients and adapt the choice of the modalities of intervention according to the probability of achieving the targets.
2. After this webinar, learners will be able to perform a diagnostic work-up and staging of obesity not based solely on the presence of an abnormal and/or excessive fat accumulation (anthropometric component), but including a careful analysis of the present and potential effects that dysfunctional and/or excessive fat accumulation may have on health (clinical component).
Speaker:
Luca Busetto
Full Professor of Nutrition, University Hospital of Padova
Luca Busetto is Vice President of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and Past Presient of the Italian Obesity Society (SIO).
