The relationship between childhood adversities and obesogenic behaviors is complex, yet the pathways underlying susceptibility to obesity in individuals with a history of childhood adversity remain elusive. Dr. Figueroa will share the latest discoveries from his laboratory, revealing how early adversities reshape the gut microbiome-brain axis to influence behavior and obesity risk.
1. After participating in the webinar, learners will be able to describe evidence-based science regarding environmental, microbiota, neuroendocrine, and neurobiological mechanisms influencing obesogenic behaviors in stressful conditions.

2. After participating in the webinar, learners will be able to identify new therapeutic targets that may influence stress-induced obesogenic behaviors.

3. After this webinar, learners will be able to formulate and execute preventive and therapeutic strategies aimed at decreasing obesity among individuals at risk.
Dr. Johnny D. Figueroa, PhD
Dr. Johnny D. Figueroa earned his Ph.D. from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus in 2006. For the past decade, he has served as an Assistant/Associate Professor in Neuroscience at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California, with a focus on researching the interaction between early-life stress and obesity.
The Obesity Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
